Florence Fest 19'

Seven regional jazz acts will complement 12 Oregon boutique wineries and an invitational juried art show and sale, to lure aficionados of discerning tastes to Florence, Oregon, for FlorenceFest`19.

The two-day event takes place at the Florence Events Center from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 26, and 2:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. Pre-event tickets are $20 for Friday, $25 for Saturday. Tickets are available at the Florence Events Center or online at eventcenter.org. Admission is restricted to adults 21 and over. Attendees receive a commemorative wine glass and six free tastings. Jazz headliners include Farnell Newton & the Othership Connection on Friday and Soul Vaccination on Saturday. Farnell Newton & The Othership Connection

Revitalizing Funk & Soul with a new twist, Farnell Newton & the Othership Connection has been stirring up a ton of noise on the NW music scene. Led by Trumpeter Farnell Newton, who currently tours with Jill Scott & Bootsy Collins, the Othership Connection brings a sound that blends the old with the new.  They are gaining a reputation of funkin’ up stages all night long.

Trumpeter Farnell Newton is one of the most versatile musicians & educators in the Northwest, playing straight ahead jazz, funk, Latin music, soul, hip hop, and more. In the last year, Newton toured with 3-time Grammy Winner & award winning Actress Jill Scott.  Farnell has also performed with a who's who of world class artists including, Stevie Wonder, Bootsy Collins, Cee-Lo Green, Karl Denson, Lettuce, George Duke, Brian Blade, Eric Benet, Lalah Hathaway, Ron Isley, R. Kelly, Fantasia, Gladys Knight, Charlie Wilson, Chaka Khan, Najee, Will Downing, Earth, Wind and Fire and more!

Soul Vaccination

Soul Vaccination remains at the top of the Portland charts, and is one of the tightest Funk & Soul Bands in the PNW. As the Rose City's favorite, Soul Vax infuses the stage with the greatest soul standards, and has been a fixture in the Northwest music scene for over 20 years.

This high energy12 piece band features Brian Harris on Hammond B-3 and keyboards, along with the precision guitar playing of Mike Doolin. On bass, is Grammy nominated producer John Linn, and on drums is Ron Tuttle, always bringin' the funk and groovin' hard. Portland's own Regina K, Mark Wyatt, and Porsch Anthony share their soulful vocals styles. Lewis Livermore and Dave Mills carry the backbone sound of the Soul Vax horns on trumpets, with Ron Regan, Gary Harris, & Timothy Bryson on saxophones.
