“Dancing FOR Sea Lions!” with That Other Band
Put on your dancin’ shoes and slide into a benefit dance party to help our stationary Sea Lions!
Popular R&B group “That Other Band” (TOB) will help you dance the blues away on Saturday, June 6th, 6:30 to 9:30 PM at the Florence Events Center.
TOB -- the popular R&B, funk, and soul group out of Roseburg -- has rocked high-energy gigs since 2004 at wineries, festivals, and venues where the good times roll.
This soulful fun is all for a great cause … to help put a shine on our beloved Dancing With Sea Lions sculpture installation here on the coast.
These unique fiberglass creations -- each decorated by a different local artist -- were installed in 2015 by the Friends of the Florence Events Center (now FACE), with help from the Events Center, Sea Lion Caves, and Three Rivers Casino. They are proudly displayed from Reedsport to Florence, and from Yachats to Walport.
Alas, time waits for no sea lion -- and while these beauties have survived eleven years of wind and weather, they could certainly use a little love, attention, repair, and new user IDs (updated identification plaques). Each statue is unique, with a local theme and an appropriate name.
This dance party is a shout-out to our greater Florence community on behalf of Sunny, Porter, Umi No Nami and friends to raise awareness, attention, and money to bring the statues back to tip top, sparkly, tail slappin’ shape for another decade.
Put on your sequined sneakers and kick up your heels to kick off fundraising for these perky pinnipeds! Prepare for a bistro-style blast with high-energy shouts and artistic marine moves on the FEC Flat Floor.
Tickets are available at FLORENCEARTS.ORG or at the door. Doors open at 6:00PM music starts at 6:30PM..
Tickets are only $20 for a night of dance, light refreshments, great fun, and good vibes with TOB. Hot food and adult libations will be on the menu for purchase. And best of all -- the proceeds go directly to help the Sea Lions. Information at 541-991-8811.
